July 14 is National Tape Measure Day in the United States. We don’t know who started this, but it does exist, according to NationalDayCalendar.com. A patent was obtained on July 14, 1868 by Alvin J. Fellows of New Haven Connecticut. It was for improvements in tape measures. We don’t know what the improvements were. Today’s best tape measures are a flexible steel tape in a durable metal case, with a retractable feature and a belt clip. Smaller pocket tapes are very popular, too, like the Barlow 6 foot tape measure.
June is “National Great Outdoors Month” in the United States. It was started in 1998 to draw people to the national parks and local parks. Visiting the outdoors is good for the soul. It offers a great release from the pressures of everyday life. Best of all, many aspects of it are free. How can you focus on this activity?
Volunteer at a summer camp for kids.
Go boating.
Walk in the woods.
Take pictures of sunsets and post them on your social media outlet.
Go biking, running, or walking on a local trail.
Run with your baby.
Get out of town and take a drive in the country.
No matter where you go, don’t leave home without your Maglite Flashlights. They can save your life if you get lost, or get caught after sunset in an unfamiliar place.
June is national safety month in the U.S. It’s the time to be aware of safety issues around the home, work, and public places.
Engraved Flashlights For National Safety Month
How to get involved:
Identify safety problems and report them to the right people.
Make sure your first aid kits are adequately stocked.
Check the condition of your fire extinguishers. If the pressure gauge is low, you may be able to have it re-charged. Otherwise, throw it away and replace it with a new one. Your fire department can advise you on this matter.
Take a CPR course.
Check the condition of your flashlights. When the electricity goes out, you don’t want a torch with dead batteries. Engraved flashlights with your company logo are a great way to advertise your company while helping to keep everyone safe.
Ask any Arborist. Ask any oilfield worker. They will tell you how vital a diameter tape measure is to their jobs.
Using Diameter Tape Measure On A Tree
An Arborist needs to quickly determine the diameter of a tree, because he probably has to do this to another thousand trees. He uses this measurement to determine the amount of wood contained in the tree, so it can be sold for the wood content. For convenience and speed, he measures the diameter at the height of his chest. Diameter breast high (DBH) is the term used for this height. A tree diameter tape has a hook at the beginning, so the user can attach it to the bark, walk around the tree, and have the tape meet the zero mark. He reads the number on the tape, which is the diameter in inches.
He just cleans off the pipeline and wraps the tape around it. The answer is shown on the tape where it lines up to the zero mark. It’s important to him because he needs to know how much oil or gas the pipe can carry. Also, if a fitting needs replaced or modified, he needs to order the right size. Diameter tapes are a vital part of the oil and gas business.
The first Wednesday in June is National Running Day in the U.S. Running, jogging, and walking have become very popular in the last 20 years. People are more health conscious, and realize that these sports are good for your heart and general health. Almost anyone can do them. Every weekend in the summer has a race somewhere close by. The prizes you get for finishing are usually a shirt, jacket, tote bag, or a medal. Runners would rather run in a group than by themselves, and don’t mind paying $25 to $50 to run in a group and get some swag each time. You don’t have to be in the top 3 to get a trophy and cash. You just have to be in the top 3 in your age bracket and sex bracket. With each age bracket consisting of 5 to 10 years, there are many winners.
How can you celebrate this day?
Sign up for a race.
Tally Book Junior Steno Style for Runners
Sponsor someone to race, if that is an option.
Support a racer.
Take a “finishing” picture of your favorite runner and post it on social media for them. Send it to their friends and relatives.
Hand out tally books with your company logo to all the runners. They can use it to keep track of all their races, their speed, length, and awards.
May 24th is Brother’s Day. It gives us another day to celebrate “brotherly love”. How can you and your brother observe this day?
Share some time together. Have lunch. Maybe dance.
If you haven’t talked for a while, this is the perfect
M2A Maglite with Holster
day for that.
Return those tools that you borrowed 10 years ago.
Give your brother a Maglite engraved with something meaningful to both of you. It’s a quality gift that will last a lifetime. It’s made in the USA, and popular all over the world.
will not be affected by the Covid lockdowns occurring in China this month.
This month’s supply chain issues are mainly caused by China’s lockdown due to an increased occurrence of Covid.
Our trade association, Advertising Specialy Institute (ASI) reported that “Suppliers say lockdowns in Shanghai and other areas of China are likely to delay restocking of promo products in North America.”
I know, there has been an inventory issue for a year. Now it is getting worse. China was producing and shipping at a reduced volume last year. Now they are blatantly shut down. The Port of Shanghai is now a huge ship parking lot. These ships are either waiting to get loaded or unloaded.
Container Ship Waiting to Get Unloaded
How long will this problem last? It depends on the lockdown, and how the Chinese government handles the issue. Fortunately, Maglite is not affected. Many other suppliers like SanMar (according to ASI) have anticipated this problem, and have stocked up on inventory, to above average levels. Other promotional product suppliers that saw this lockdown coming, also are probably prepared to meet customer demand this year. Hopefully China will get back on its feet again soon.
Tomorrow, the first Wednesday in May, is National Skilled Trades Day in the US. This is the day we set aside to recognize the importance of those who:
Build your homes.
Fix the furnace and air conditioning in your office and homes.
A Skilled Tradesman Taking Notes in the Field
Paint ceilings, walls, bridges, and machinery.
Wire your house and the businesses.
Fix your cars.
Create your hairdo.
Build the roads.
Repair aircraft.
A college education isn’t necessary for any of these jobs, so these careers have generally been hard to fill with qualified people. Tomorrow, you can recognize these important contributors to society by:
Thanking them.
Calling them for assistance instead of doing it yourself.
Give them a gift, like this useful architect scale ruler. It is a vital tool for reading blueprints of road construction and building construction and remodeling.
