With 20% of the U.S. population—about 60 million people—living in rural areas, you would think that they would have equal access to the healthcare that the residents of urban areas do.
But did you know that residents in rural areas are more likely than residents of urban areas to die from heart disease, cancer, stroke and chronic lower respiratory disease?
Today is National Rural Health Day, a day where we applaud the ongoing efforts, contributions, and collaborations occurring in rural communities to address the unique challenges in accessing and delivering health care services.
Help your community showcase the efforts of rural healthcare providers, hospitals, and clinics today by organizing any of these activities at your office:
- Staff luncheon with keynote speaker from rural healthcare system
- Group fitness activity/organized run to promote a healthy lifestyle
- Make t-shirts with the NRHD logo
- Hand out Healthy Living promotional calendars to customers
